Antonio Gaspari

Gaspari worked in Venice around the turn of the eighteenth century, largely in the shadow of Baldassarre Longhena, whose projects he inherited and finished. He completed the staircase at Ca' Pesaro and worked on other Longhena buildings after the older architect's death in 1682.
His independent output is less well documented, and much of what is attributed to him is a matter of continuing or adapting someone else's design rather than originating one. That is not a small role in Venetian building, where projects routinely outlived their architects, but it does mean the record of his own intentions is thin.
