Central Region Guide

Overview

Recognized as the heart of the country, the central region of Switzerland is situated on the center of the country and shadowed by the Alpine foothills. It is comprised of six different cantons, namely, Uri, Schwyz, Obwalden, Nidwalden Lucerne and Zug. Each of these cantons offers travelers its own hidden treasures of the beauty and splendor of the country.

Central Switzerland is home to vast mountain ranges, picturesque landscapes, and rolling terrains. One of the prime tourist destinations to visit in the central Switzerland region is the Stanserhorn Revolving Restaurant located just right outside the canton of Lucerne. Known as the first and only revolving restaurant in the central Switzerland region, Stanserhorn not only provides travelers samples of the finest Swiss cuisine and treats. Since the Stanserhorn is situated 1900 meters above sea level, diners are treated to a memorable and breathtaking ride up the mountain with a cable car, providing them a view not just of the majestic Alps but also the 10 Swiss lakes glistening like sapphires amidst an emerald landscape.

To escape the hustle and bustle of the city life and commune with nature at its finest, the tourists head out to the scenic attractions like Swiss Path situated around Lake Uri. Hikers and trekkers are treated to a breathtaking view of the Alps as they journey through this historic trail which has been a project of all 26 cantons that make up the country of Switzerland. The trail also takes you through a number of different historic sites, each a representative of the canton represented in the trail.
