The Irving nature park in Saint John, along the Bay of Fundy has charming beaches, woodlands, trails, volcanic rocks, all packaged to make a perfect location for hiking and backpacking. Created by J D Irving, the park is spread over 600 acres to preserve an endangered acreage. With close proximity to urban centers, this park will help you reconnect with nature without having to travel miles apart. The passionate bird watcher can be charmed by over 250 species like the Black-Capped Chickadee, Blue Herons, Sandpipers and Tree Swallows to name a few. The abundance of these birds that migrate here is due to the rich food sources in salt marsh as well as the sea. The marine ecosystem presents variety of whales, whelks, fish, sea urchins harbor seals, mussels, periwinkles, starfish, and mollusks, amongst others.
With strict guidelines, a separate vehicle road around the park has been created with 8 walking tracks of varied lengths ad difficulty to suit each ones needs without causing any damage and preserve the natural habitat of the species. The park is attractive to visit all year round depending on the activity you would want to pursue. While all year round you can do cross country, hiking, while in winter you can also do skiing and snowshoeing.
