The Aboriginal Metis people were considered the “First People of Canada” and they settled in the area of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada long before the Europeans arrived and formed the permanent town. The name of the area originates with the Cree Indians and means “the place of many Saskatoon berries”’; these are tasty violet berries that are abundant in the area. The Forestry Farm Park and Zoo contains over 80 different animal species and was built in 1964.
