One of America’s greatest heroes is Nathan Hale, who was from this wonderful town of Coventry, Connecticut. People began settling this town in the early 1700s, and about a dozen families were among the early pioneers who settled in this town. This town is near the Willimantic River and it’s included in the Registry of Historic Places. It’s home to several historic homes and some great restaurants and bars.

- The historic Homestead of Nathan Hale is one of the historic sites and birthplace to the famous Revolutionary war hero.
- Another site that is part of the historic Registry is the Strong-Porter Museum and it houses many historic items from the 1730s.
- Wangumbaug Lake is a popular site for families because of great picnic areas, a lovely beach, the playground, and a band shell where numerous concerts are held in the summer. It’s also popular because of the famous Water Ski Team and the Women’s Crew Team from the University of Connecticut.
- Glass makers will enjoy the beautiful blown and stained glass that is displayed in the Museum of Connecticut Glass.
- There are some great places for shopping in the area, and the Highland Park Market has some of the best bread in the area – imagine that wonderful aroma of fresh baked bread.
