Located on the southern shores of the Rio de la Plata, Buenos Aires is the capital of Argentina, and is also its largest city. The city is often known as the “Paris of the South”, thanks to its European-style culture, and it is certainly an exciting place to visit. Buenos Aires is the birthplace of Tango music and it is also the thriving hub of the Argentine film industry. The city is one of the largest in South America. There is plenty more to see here, including lovely grassy squares lined with cafes, and the Recoleta Cultural Center, a major contemporary art gallery. Make sure the Palermo district is on your list, too—this beautiful XX includes stunning botanic gardens and parklands, a zoo, and some unique architecture. This is one of the best places to shop if you’re looking for designer clothing, and there is some exciting night life here too. Don’t miss the amazing Floral Generica—this amazing aluminum sculpture is a giant flower forty meters in diameter with petals that open and close in harmony with the rising and setting of the sun. La Boca is a vibrant neighborhood with charming low houses painted in gorgeous bright colors. This area has a strong artistic tradition thanks to Benito Quinquela Martin, a well-known Argentine painter who immortalized the area in many of his paintings. See street singers and dancers on the Calle Caminito, and visit the Fundacion Proa, a museum dedicated to work by Argentine artists. Another beautiful neighborhood to visit is Retiro. Here you can see the Plaza San Martin, surrounded by ornately decorated buildings, the Monunment a Los Caidos Malvinas war memorial, and climb the Torres de los Ingleses, a tower in the Plaza Fuerza Aerea Argentina that provides wonderful views of the surrounding area.
