How to Get Around Cuyo (Central Andes)
Getting Around
Getting in: Mendoza airport has flights from Buenos Aires in about two hours and some regional connections. Buses from Buenos Aires take around fourteen hours.
In the wine regions: Maipu is reachable by local bus and best explored by bicycle; Lujan de Cuyo and the Uco Valley really need a car or a driver, and the Uco is an hour and a half from the city.
Use a driver if you are tasting. Drink-driving enforcement is strict and the roads between bodegas are unlit.
To Chile: Route 7 over the Cristo Redentor pass to Santiago de Chile takes six to eight hours by bus. The pass closes for snow in winter, sometimes for days, and the crossing itself involves a slow joint border post.
To Aconcagua: buses on the Chile route stop at Puente del Inca and the park entrance.
