Calgary Stampede

9–18 July 2027 in Calgary: ten days of rodeo, chuckwagon racing, midway, concerts and First Nations exhibitions, over a million visitors, the "Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth" since 1912, with free pancake breakfasts across the city.

K-Days

Mid-to-late July in Edmonton (17–26 July in 2026), the capital's ten-day summer exhibition at the Expo Centre, with rides, concerts and the midway, running just after the Stampede.

Edmonton Folk Music Festival

The second weekend of August in Gallagher Park (5–8 August 2027), one of Canada's great folk festivals on a hillside over the downtown skyline, held since 1980.

Banff and the mountain-town seasons

Ski season roughly November to May at Lake Louise, Sunshine and Marmot Basin; the summer hiking and lake season June to September, at its peak in July and August; the larch-gold weeks of late September the connoisseur's choice.

Winter on Abraham Lake

January to March, when the methane bubbles freeze into the ice of the North Saskatchewan reservoir and the ice walks open in Johnston Canyon.

Rodeos and fairs

Small-town rodeos and agricultural fairs across the plains through the summer, the Ponoka Stampede and the Canadian Finals Rodeo among the biggest.

The Stampede, K-Days and Folk Festival dates are the organisers' own; the seasons are the encyclopaedia's and the parks' and should be checked with the operators.

Verified against Calgary Stampede, September 2026.
