The Hôtel InterContinental Carlton Cannes is a luxury hotel built in 1911 on the Mediterranean Sea's shores on the Promenade de la Croisette in Cannes, France. It has been declared a historical monument.
History
This hotel was built for Henry Ruhl by the architects Charles Dalmas of Nice and Marcellin Mayère of Cannes between 1909 and 1913. With 343 rooms, including 39 suites, its façade is clad in two-tone faux stone. The decoration was cast in concrete. The hotel was partially transformed into a hospital during the First World War, while during the Second World War, it continued to function as a hotel. It has been associated with the world of cinema since the creation of the Cannes Film Festival in 1946.
On 12 April 2011, the investment bank Morgan Stanley sold its portfolio of seven hotels, including the Carlton Cannes, to Mansion Services Limited, owned by a Lebanese businessman, Toufik Aboukhater, a resident of Monaco. Managed by the InterContinental chain, the hotel has been owned by the Qatari group Katara Hospitality since 2014.
In July 2013, during the Extraordinary Diamonds exhibition of the Leviev house, an armed individual seized a briefcase containing jewels and diamonds; according to an initial estimate, the loss amounted to €40 million,2 but the loot was finally estimated at €102 million.

The Carlton is located in Cannes' center on the Promenade de la Croisette, 25 km from Nice International Airport on the route du Bord de Mer, 1 km from the Gare de Cannes, and 1 km from the Palais des Festivals de Cannes. The Carlton is located 8 km from Antibes, 30 km from Saint-Paul-de-Vence, 50 km from Monaco and 50 km from Saint-Tropez.

Heritage protection
The hotel was listed as a 'monument historique' on 10 October 19847 and in the general inventory of French cultural heritage as part of the Patrimoine balnéaire de Cannes cataloging. The building was awarded the label 'Patrimoine du XXe siècle' in the application of the circular of 1 March 2001.
