Cantabria Region Guide

Overview

Cantabria is one of the many autonomous regions that make up the northern region of the country of Spain. It is also one of the many provinces that comprise what has been considered as the Green Spain region. The region has been called so because the climate here is wet and temperate, primarily due to the influence of the Atlantic Ocean. As such, Cantabria is home to lush forests and plantations of Eucalyptus trees and Monterey Pines, the latter being used as a prime component used in the paper making industry.

The Cantabrian province is divided into two regions, each with its own treasures to share to travelers visiting this place. The inland region of Cantabria is home to the Parque Nacional de los Picos de Europa. Recognized as the first national park in all of Spain, Parque Nacional de los Picos de Europa is home to some of the most beautiful landscapes and sceneries in this side of the world. One of the highlights of this park is the Picos de Europa mountain range. Eternally covered in snow, this mountain range features some of the best faces for mountain climbers and trekkers. It is also home of the beautiful Covadonga lakes where tourists and locals can enjoy a variety of water sports, or simply commune with nature through the different nature trails beside it.

The second region is the coastal region. Here travelers are captivated with some of the most pristine beaches in this side of the world. The coastal region is also home to a number of different sand dunes, many of which have been preserved in order to maintain the order and balance of the region’s ecosystem.
