How to get around Bangalore
Getting around
Plan Bangalore by clusters. Vidhana Soudha, Cubbon Park and the central museums can form one day; Lalbagh, Basavanagudi and the old market quarter belong to a different route. Bangalore Palace and northern institutions should not be treated as a quick extension when traffic is heavy.
Namma Metro is useful when both ends of the trip lie near stations. The operator publishes a station-to-station fare calculator, current timetables, QR tickets, smart cards and day passes. A short walk or bus, taxi or auto-rickshaw leg often completes the journey.
BMTC buses cover far more of the metropolitan area than the rail system. Use the operator's current journey tools for the exact route; a familiar destination name may correspond to several stops or directions.
Auto-rickshaws and taxis are practical for the final gap and for routes poorly matched to rail. Confirm the fare method before departure and use an authorised airport or app-booked service where applicable.
Walking quality changes abruptly. Parks and some central streets are comfortable, while wide roads, construction, missing footways and difficult crossings can interrupt an apparently short route. Check the last kilometre rather than only the total distance.

Airport
Kempegowda International Airport is northeast of the city and should be treated as a separate transfer. BMTC's Vayu Vajra services connect the airport with multiple city corridors; taxis and app-booked cars are alternatives. Allow for road conditions rather than relying on a best-case journey.
Metro
Use the live BMRCL planner for the station pair and fare. QR tickets, tokens, smart cards and one-, three- and five-day passes are supported. The network is useful but does not put every attraction within an easy walk.
City buses
BMTC provides the widest public-transport coverage. Confirm the route number, boarding direction and stop name, especially at large terminals such as Kempegowda Bus Station.
Rail
Long-distance trains use more than one Bengaluru station. Travel to the station printed on the ticket; “Bangalore station” is not specific enough for a transfer plan.
Walking and cycling
Walk within a compact district, garden or market. Do not assume two nearby map pins have a comfortable pedestrian connection. Cycling conditions are similarly uneven and demand local route knowledge.
Accessibility
BMRCL publishes station facilities for passengers with disabilities, but step-free rail does not guarantee a step-free pavement, garden, market or heritage site at the destination. Verify the complete route, including entrances, surfaces, lifts and toilets.
