Getting Around
Getting in: Bengaluru has a major international airport; Mangalore and Hubli have domestic services.
Trains connect the state well. Bengaluru to Mysore takes two hours, and overnight trains reach Hospet for Hampi.
To Hampi: overnight train or bus from Bengaluru to Hospet, then a short hop. At the site, bicycles, mopeds and autorickshaws; the ruins are spread over more than twenty square kilometres and walking all of it is not realistic.
The Hoysala temples: Belur and Halebidu are near Hassan and are best done by car in a day, often combined with Shravanabelagola.
Bengaluru has a growing metro, which is far better than the traffic. Allow generous time for any road journey in the city — congestion is genuinely among the worst in the world.
