1. 1905 The museum project is initiated to commemorate the Prince of Wales's visit, with public participation in its foundation.
2. 1909 George Wittet's design is selected and the foundation stone is laid.
3. 1914 The building is substantially complete, but the First World War delays museum use.
4. First World War The building serves as a hospital rather than opening immediately as a museum.
5. 10 January 1922 The museum opens to the public.
6. 1998 The institution adopts the name Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya.
