Chronology

1. 15th century tradition Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari is associated with Mumbai and the burial place on the offshore rocks.
2. Early 19th century The complex receives the architectural form broadly recognised today.
3. 1916 Haji Ali Dargah Trust is legally constituted to administer the shrine.
4. Late 20th–21st centuries Repairs address marine exposure, heavy footfall and deterioration while pilgrimage continues.
5. Present day The trust maintains daily ziyarat and religious observances open to visitors of all faiths.
