Practical information for visiting Udaipur

Connectivity & Internet

Maharana Pratap Airport at Dabok is Udaipur's air gateway. It lies outside the centre, and onward travel is by road. Routes and schedules change, so use the airline and Airports Authority of India for current information.

Indian Railways connects Udaipur with major regional and national centres, while state and private buses provide extensive road links. Read the full station or boarding point on the ticket.

Within the city, public buses and road-based rides connect the modern districts, lakes and transport hubs. Walking is most useful inside the old-city cluster, not as an all-city strategy.

Road links connect Udaipur with Chittorgarh, Nathdwara, Kumbhalgarh, Mount Abu and other parts of Rajasthan, but these are separate journeys. Build margin around monsoon weather, weddings and holiday traffic.

Phone data is broadly useful in established urban areas, but keep tickets, addresses and emergency contacts available offline.

Stay safe (2026 security update)

Use ordinary city precautions in markets, ghats, station areas, festival crowds and sunset viewpoints. Keep phones and wallets secure and carry only what you need.

Use official ticket channels, recognised guides and clearly identified transport. Confirm the vehicle and fare method, and check unsolicited claims that an attraction or road is closed with the operator or authority.

Road traffic, steep lanes, unguarded water edges and slippery monsoon stone are common practical risks. Stay out of vehicle paths and do not climb walls or embankments for photographs.

Heat, thunderstorms and intense monsoon rain can make an ordinary route unsafe. Follow IMD, Forest Department and local instructions. Never bypass a closure at Sajjangarh or enter floodwater.

India's integrated emergency number is 112.

Health considerations

From April through June, heat is the principal seasonal health risk. Start early, carry safe water, use shade and stop for dizziness, confusion, headache or unusual weakness. Alcohol and a busy itinerary do not substitute for acclimatisation.

Choose sealed or reliably filtered water and freshly cooked food from busy premises. Seek qualified care for persistent gastrointestinal illness, fever or dehydration.

Use mosquito repellent and clothing coverage, particularly during and after the monsoon. Discuss routine and destination-specific vaccines, personal medical risks and insurance with a qualified clinician before travel.

Dust and air pollution can affect respiratory conditions. Check current official air-quality readings and follow individual medical advice.

Do not touch or feed dogs, macaques or other mammals. Obtain prompt medical assessment after any bite or scratch. Call 112 for urgent police, fire or medical assistance.

Emergency information

Dial 112 for urgent police, fire, medical or rescue assistance in Udaipur. Give a precise lane, gate, ghat, lake, hotel, temple, station or attraction entrance and share a map pin when possible.

At City Palace, a temple, airport, railway station, hotel, boat landing or Sajjangarh, alert responsible on-site staff as well as emergency services. Follow evacuation and closure instructions.

For boat, airline, rail or bus disruption, contact the current operator. A hotel or reseller may help, but it does not replace the operator's safety decision.

During heat, lightning, intense rain, flooding or wildfire conditions, follow IMD, Rajasthan authorities and the Forest Department. Do not enter floodwater or bypass a barrier.

Keep identification copies, insurance, medication details, accommodation and consular contacts offline. Report a lost passport to local police and the relevant embassy or consulate.
