Telangana
Practical information for visiting Telangana
Connectivity & Internet
Cellular data and digital payment work well in Hyderabad and major towns, but signal quality can weaken on forest roads, around reservoirs and in remote villages. Download tickets, maps, hotel details and the local-language place name before leaving a main centre.
Keep an offline copy of identification and emergency contacts while protecting the original documents. A local SIM or roaming plan may require current identity and activation procedures; check with the provider rather than a reseller's informal promise.
Power interruptions are possible outside major urban areas. Carry a charged power bank when a phone holds the day's ticket or driver contact, but do not depend on a phone as the only navigation or emergency plan in a protected landscape.
Stay safe (2026 security update)
Use India's 112 emergency number for urgent police, fire, medical or rescue assistance. Keep accommodation details and a local contact available offline.
Road risk is often more immediate than crime. Avoid rushed night driving on unfamiliar rural roads, use seat belts and helmets, and confirm that a driver has rest on long circuits.
Heat, thunderstorms and heavy rain can become safety issues. Follow India Meteorological Department warnings and district instructions; do not enter flooded underpasses, fast water or closed forest roads.
In busy transport hubs, festivals and Hyderabad markets, secure phones, wallets and bags without treating ordinary crowds as inherently dangerous. Use official booking channels and agreed fares.
Protected areas have their own hazards. Remain with authorised guides, stay inside the assigned vehicle or route and never approach wildlife for a photograph.
Health considerations
Discuss personal travel health needs with a qualified clinician before departure, particularly if the itinerary includes remote forest districts. Carry adequate insurance and medicines in original packaging.
Heat exhaustion and dehydration are practical risks from March into the monsoon. Start exposed visits early, drink safe water, replace salts appropriately and stop when symptoms appear rather than trying to complete a schedule.
Mosquito-borne illness occurs in India. Use repellent, suitable clothing and screened or air-conditioned sleeping space, and seek medical advice for fever during or after travel.
Choose drinking water from a sealed or properly treated source. Eat at busy, clean establishments, and be more cautious with uncooked food or ice when water handling is unclear.
Specialist care is concentrated in Hyderabad and larger cities. A remote heritage or wildlife circuit should include transport time to appropriate medical help.

Local laws & etiquette
At active temples, mosques, dargahs and churches, follow posted dress, footwear, photography and access rules. Permission at one part of a complex does not apply automatically to every shrine or ceremony.
Archaeological fragments and protected natural material must remain where they are. Do not climb carved structures, scratch rock surfaces, fly a drone or use commercial photography equipment without the required permission.
Ask before photographing people, especially during worship, Bathukamma arrangements, Bonalu processions or in Adivasi and rural communities. A public event is not blanket consent for a close portrait.
Use licensed guides, vehicles, alcohol vendors and wildlife operators. Current entry, filming, forest and alcohol rules can change; the relevant authority's notice takes priority over an old article.
Public affection, clothing and social interaction are read differently across Hyderabad, pilgrimage sites and villages. Observe the immediate setting without assuming that one rule describes the whole state.

Emergency information
For urgent police, fire, medical or rescue help in India, call 112. Give the state, district, nearest named settlement or landmark and a callback number; rural places may share names.
For severe weather, use the India Meteorological Department's Telangana and district warnings. Follow local instructions during heat waves, thunderstorms, heavy rain and flooding.
In a forest or sanctuary, contact the assigned guide, range office or entry gate as well as 112. Do not leave the route to search independently for a missing person.
For rail or bus disruption, use the current operator's official channel. Keep the exact train, bus, station and booking reference available.
Major hospitals and consular support are concentrated in Hyderabad. Remote itineraries should carry insurance details, essential medicines and a realistic transfer plan.
