Landour
How to get around Landour
Getting around
Dehradun is the principal gateway. Its railway station and Jolly Grant Airport connect with road transport to Mussoorie; Landour continues uphill from the shared urban ridge.
A taxi is the simplest final transfer when carrying luggage. Confirm the exact drop-off with the accommodation because “Landour” can describe different points on a steep road network, and a short map distance may involve a demanding climb.
Walking is the main way to experience the upper cantonment. Choose one circuit, wear shoes with grip and leave time for gradients. Avoid summoning a vehicle for every stop: turning and waiting space is limited around the busiest junctions.
Public and shared transport is more useful for reaching Mussoorie than for constructing a precise Landour sightseeing loop. Verify the last connection and pickup point locally, especially after dark or during poor weather.
A private car adds parking and turning decisions rather than solving every transfer. If driving, agree on one safe drop-off and collection point and follow current police or cantonment controls.

Arriving through Dehradun
Jolly Grant Airport and Dehradun railway station are the main air and rail gateways. District guidance directs onward travellers to Mussoorie by taxi or bus. Confirm the mountain transfer separately from the flight or train.
The final climb
Give a driver the property's exact name and a map pin. Ask whether the vehicle can reach the entrance and whether road controls, construction or weather require a different meeting point.
Walking the ridge
Start early around the upper ridge and group Char Dukan and Lal Tibba in one circuit. Add lower Landour only if the descent, return climb and daylight fit the plan. Carry water and a layer even when Mussoorie feels mild.
Mobility limits
Steep gradients, uneven edges and limited pavements make Landour difficult for some travellers. Ask accommodation staff for a genuinely step-free arrival and a realistic description of the route; “car access” does not prove that the entrance or viewpoint is accessible.
Weather margin
Allow extra time during monsoon rain, winter weather and busy weekends. Follow official closures and never ask a driver to pass a barrier or stop where the road becomes unsafe.
