Landour

Practical information for visiting Landour

Connectivity & Internet

Dehradun provides the main external connections. Indian Railways serves the city, while Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest scheduled-air gateway. Neither removes the final mountain-road transfer to Mussoorie and Landour.

Road is the only practical last leg. The district administration lists taxi and bus access to Mussoorie; continue to the exact Landour drop-off arranged with the lodging or driver.

Cellular and guesthouse internet can vary with provider, terrain, power and the building. Download tickets, the property pin, emergency contacts and one offline map before beginning the climb.

Tell the host when to expect you. If weather or traffic changes the arrival, update them while service is available rather than assuming a driver will find an unmarked entrance after dark.

Stay safe (2026 security update)

Mountain-road and weather risks deserve more attention than unusual crime. Use an experienced driver, wear a seat belt and avoid pressuring anyone to overtake or continue past an official closure.

During heavy rain, expect reduced visibility, slippery walking surfaces, falling material and possible road interruption. Follow USDMA, district and police notices. Never walk or drive around a barrier.

Upper roads can be narrow and shared by people and vehicles. Walk facing traffic where practical, step aside at a safe place and use a light after dark. Do not stand in a bend for a photograph.

Keep valuables controlled at crowded café and viewpoint stops, and arrange the return before mobile service or daylight becomes uncertain. Share the vehicle and accommodation details with someone you trust.

Health considerations

Lal Tibba reaches about 2,438 metres. Most visitors arrive by road from much lower Dehradun, so climb at an easy pace, drink water and stop if headache, nausea or unusual breathlessness develops.

Carry prescribed medicine and enough extra for a weather delay. Landour is not the place to assume a specific pharmacy item or medical service will be available late.

Use shoes with grip on steep, wet or frosty lanes. Carry a warm layer and rain protection even when the plains are hot; shade, wind and cloud can change comfort quickly.

Avoid walking the exposed ridge during lightning or intense rain. Follow IMD and disaster-authority advice, and move indoors when local staff direct it.

Curving mountain roads can cause motion sickness. Eat lightly before the climb if needed, keep water accessible and discuss medication with a qualified clinician rather than taking unfamiliar tablets en route.

Emergency information

Call 112 for an urgent police, fire, medical or rescue emergency in Landour.

Give the exact road, property or junction, the nearest recognised landmark and a map pin. “Landour” alone covers several levels and approaches, so describe whether you are near Char Dukan, Lal Tibba, the bazaar or the Mussoorie side.

Alert accommodation, school, church, cantonment or police staff when the incident occurs on land they manage. Follow their evacuation or access instructions and do not attempt an untrained slope or forest rescue.

Keep identification, insurance, medical details and emergency contacts available offline. Carry power, water, a layer and essential medicine on every long walk or delayed mountain transfer.
