How to Get Around Pescasseroli

The village is small and everything beyond it needs transport.

The centre is crossed on foot in ten minutes, though it is on a slope and the old lanes are stepped.

Parking is plentiful on the valley floor and tight in the old centre; in August it is the one genuine annoyance.

There is no railway. The nearest stations are at Avezzano, about an hour north, and Alfedena-Scontrone, slow and infrequent.

Buses run down the valley to Castel di Sangro and north towards Avezzano, and a seasonal service links the villages of the park, but timetables are thin.

A car is effectively necessary for Val Fondillo, the Camosciara, Barrea and Civitella Alfedena.

Mountain roads are good but narrow, and the passes close with snow in winter; winter tyres or chains are required from November to April.
