How to Get Around Aosta

Aosta is small, flat and easy, and the valley around it is well served.

The centre is the Roman rectangle, crossed on foot in fifteen minutes and largely pedestrian.

Parking is outside the walls and straightforward.

The station is a few minutes from the centre, on a branch line from Turin.

Buses are the real network here: frequent services run up every side valley and to Courmayeur, and they are the way to reach the mountains without a car.

A cable car from the city climbs to Pila, the local ski area, in about twenty minutes.

A car helps for the castles and the higher villages and is unnecessary in the city.

Mountain roads close with snow from autumn to early summer.
