How to Get Around Cividale del Friuli

Cividale is very small and entirely walkable.

The centre is crossed in ten minutes on foot and is largely pedestrian; the only real gradients are the steps down to the river.

Parking is outside the historic core and is straightforward except during Mittelfest.

The station is a five-minute walk from the centre, at the end of a branch line from Udine.

Buses serve the Natisone valleys and the villages on school and work timetables, which are of limited use to a visitor.

A car is needed for the valleys, the wine hills and anything across the border.

Roads east into the valleys are narrow and winding, and some are closed by snow in winter.
