Lazio Events
Lazio's calendar is anchored by a handful of events that recur every year, most of them religious in origin and several of them famous well beyond the region.
21 April — Natale di Roma. The day Romulus is said to have founded the city in 753 BC, marked with costumed re-enactments, cultural events and public festivities.
2 June — Festa della Repubblica. The military parade along via dei Fori Imperiali, ending at piazza Venezia by the Vittoriano.
Corpus Domini — the Infiorata di Genzano. At Genzano di Roma, a carpet of flowers is laid along the route of the religious procession.
The first Saturday after 16 July — Festa de Noantri. Held in Trastevere for the Madonna del Carmelo, with the Festa del Mare at Terracina in honour of the same.
Saint Joseph's day — the fuochi di San Giuseppe at Itri.
3 and 4 September — Saint Rose of Viterbo. The city's co-patron is celebrated on the 4th, but the event is the evening before, when her Macchina — a towering votive structure named for her — is carried through the streets by the porters who bear it, the Facchini.
Checking what is actually on. Regione Lazio publishes a region-wide events calendar on its VisitLazio portal, listing festivals, sagre and historical re-enactments by comune and by date. Local feast days move with the liturgical calendar and small-town programmes are often fixed only weeks ahead, so confirm there rather than relying on last year's dates.
