Tivoli Climate Patterns

Tivoli has a Mediterranean climate modified by elevation. Summers are hot and dry, generally in the low thirties Celsius, but the hillside position and the gorge give it a breeze and cooler nights than the city on the plain — the original reason for the villas.

Winters are mild and wet, usually between four and thirteen degrees, with most of the rainfall from October to March. Frost occurs and snow is occasional.

The gardens are the practical consideration. Villa d’Este and Villa Gregoriana are steep, largely unshaded in places and entirely outdoors; in July and August the middle of the day is genuinely punishing, and both are far better early or late. Villa Adriana has almost no shade at all.
