Finale Ligure is the principal centre of its own district. It is the main town of the Finalese, which extends from Spotorno to Finale Ligure, hinterland included.

It borders six comuni. Borgio Verezzi and Tovo San Giacomo to the west, Calice Ligure, Orco Feglino and Vezzi Portio inland to the north, and Noli to the east — with the Ligurian Sea to the south.

The coast road is the spine. Varigotti, the comune's eastern frazione, sits on the road towards Noli, and beyond Noli lies Spotorno.
