How to Get Around Urbino

Urbino is walkable, steep, and effectively closed to cars.

The walled centre is pedestrian for visitors and can be crossed in fifteen minutes, all of it uphill in one direction or the other; the main street climbs continuously.

Lifts connect the car parks below the walls to the centre and save a serious climb; there is also a spiral ramp inside the Palazzo Ducale's tower.

Parking is in paid car parks outside the gates, principally Borgo Mercatale, from where the lift runs.

There is no station. The nearest working railway is at Pesaro, about forty kilometres away on the coastal line.

Buses run frequently to Pesaro and less frequently to Fano and inland; the bus station is at Borgo Mercatale.

A car is useful for the Montefeltro villages and useless in the town itself.
