Getting Around
Ostuni is walkable at its centre and needs wheels for everything beyond it.
The old town is compact but genuinely steep, with stairs, ramps and cobbles throughout. It is closed to most traffic, which is what makes it pleasant.
Piazza della Libertà and the newer town below hold the shops, banks and bus stops, and are five minutes from the old town on foot.
The railway station is a problem: it sits about two and a half kilometres below the town, and the connecting bus does not always match the trains. Check before relying on it, or take a taxi.
Buses run down to the coast in summer, much less so out of season.
A car is the practical answer for the olive plain, the coast and the Valle d'Itria. Park below the old town; do not attempt to drive into it.
