How to Get Around Alghero

Alghero is walkable at its centre and needs wheels for the coast.

The old town is small, flat and almost entirely pedestrian. Everything inside the walls is five minutes from everything else.

The modern town outside the walls holds the shops, the bus station and most of the parking.

Buses run north to the beaches and to Porto Conte in summer, and to Capo Caccia and the Grotta di Nettuno; service is much reduced out of season.

Boats leave the port for Capo Caccia and along the coast, weather permitting — the maestrale cancels them regularly.

The airport at Fertilia is about ten kilometres out, with a bus link.

A car is the practical answer for Capo Caccia, the nuraghi, Lago di Baratz and the coast road north, and for anything at all outside July and August.
