How to Get Around Bassano del Grappa
Getting Around
Bassano's historic centre is compact, flat and easily walked -- from the bridge to the far side of Piazza Garibaldi takes ten minutes.
Bassano del Grappa station is a few minutes' walk south-east of the centre. Trains reach Venice in about an hour (usually with a change at Castelfranco Veneto), Padua in around an hour, and Vicenza in about an hour. Trento is reachable up the Valsugana line, a scenic route in its own right.
Monte Grappa requires a car, or an organised excursion. The summit road climbs about 1,600 metres in some 30 km of hairpins, takes an hour each way, and is closed in winter. It is a spectacular drive and a demanding one.
Marostica is 20 minutes west by bus or car, Asolo about 30 minutes east -- both easy half-days from here.
