Manila’s attractions are clustered in two walkable areas plus a scatter elsewhere, and traffic makes combining them badly a whole wasted day.

Intramuros and Rizal Park adjoin each other and hold most of what a visitor comes for: the walls, Fort Santiago, San Agustin, Manila Cathedral, Casa Manila and the three free National Museum buildings. This is one area on foot.

Binondo is a short ride north across the Pasig, best walked with an appetite.

Makati and Bonifacio Global City hold the Ayala Museum, the modern shopping and the restaurant scene, and are a different city in feel.

Museums are largely closed on Mondays, and the National Museum complex is free every day.

Plan around traffic, not distance: five kilometres can take an hour.
