Buxton is a municipality located on Hatteras Island, near Cape Hatteras. This unincorporated town, located at North Carolina’s Dare County, is part of the state’s fourth district. About 1500 Buxton residents are administrated by the Board of Commissioners of Dare County.
Tourists flock Buxton because of watersports. The community, after all, is located near the Atlantic Ocean and the Pamlico Sound. The Gulf Stream’s collision with the Labrador Current provides big waves – perhaps the largest in the east coast. Other watersports such as kayaking, windsurfing, kiteboarding, and swimming can be done on the other side of the island.
Aside from watersports, Buxton is a favorite hub for anglers. Lots of anglers have caught big fish along the town’s coast and they converge at “The Point” to exhibit their catches. Buxton is also heralded as the best sporting fishing area to catch Red Drum or Channel Bass. This town is also home to the Cape Hatteras Anglers Club.
Nature trails also account for the town’s tourism. The town is home to the Buxton Woods, where a lot of flora and fauna can be located. There are trails in the woods as well, and they can range from easy to difficult. Families will definitely enjoy easy trails which lead to beautiful ponds and lovely views. Those who wish to take the difficult trails can provide panoramic views of the dune fields near Buxton woods.
Buxton is also famous for being the home of the Cape Hatteras Light.
