Climate varies enormously across this grouping, from Australia's desert interior to the tropical islands of the wider Pacific. Australia's vast size gives it several climate zones at once: tropical monsoon in the north (a wet season roughly November to April, dry the rest of the year), arid desert across the interior, and temperate climates in the southeast and southwest where most of the population actually lives.
New Zealand has a temperate maritime climate — generally mild year-round, wetter and cooler in the south, with genuine winter snow in the Southern Alps and a well-developed ski season.
Fiji, French Polynesia, and the Solomon Islands all share a tropical climate with a wet season and a comparatively drier season rather than four seasons in the traditional sense, and all three sit within the South Pacific cyclone belt (active roughly November to April) — a genuine factor in trip timing, not just a seasonal label.
