September and October often give the best balance for long walks: San Francisco's warmest monthly normal occurs in September, after much of the peak summer fog season. April through June is also useful, with low rainfall and long daylight, though exposed waterfronts can remain cool and windy.
July and August bring the busiest holiday period but not dependable heat. The ocean-facing west can be foggy and much colder than inland neighbourhoods. Pack layers rather than planning from California's general reputation.
November through March is the wetter season. Museums, food and performance remain strong, while rain and wind can affect bridge, coastal and park plans. Major conventions, Pride, Lunar New Year, Outside Lands and other events can raise room demand outside any simple high-season calendar.
