Getting Around
Getting in: the KTX high-speed line reaches Gyeongju from Seoul in about two hours, and Andong is on a separate line. Daegu and Pohang both have airports with domestic flights.
In Gyeongju: the historic core is compact and flat, and a hired bicycle is by far the best way to cover it. Buses run to Bulguksa and Seokguram.
Between towns: intercity buses are frequent, cheap and reach everywhere, and are usually quicker than rail for cross-province trips.
A hire car makes the mountain temples, Juwangsan and the coast far easier.
To Ulleungdo: ferries from Pohang or Donghae take three to four hours and are cancelled in rough weather, which is frequent — leave slack in your plans.
Taxis are cheap and metered.
