How to Get Around Madrid Community

Getting in: Valencia and Alicante both have international airports with extensive European connections.

High-speed rail reaches Valencia from Madrid in about an hour and three quarters, and Alicante in around two and a half. The coastal line linking the two is slower.

In Valencia: metro, trams and an extensive bike network — the city is flat and the Turia park runs right through it, which makes cycling the obvious way to get about.

The coast: a narrow-gauge tram runs the Costa Blanca from Alicante through Benidorm to Denia, and is a scenic ride in its own right.

Inland needs a car; the mountain comarcas have thin bus service.

Parking in the city centres is difficult and expensive.
