How to Get Around St Vincent and the Grenadines

Getting in is through Argyle International Airport on St Vincent, opened in 2017, which finally allowed direct flights from North America and Europe. Before that everyone connected through Barbados, and many still do.

Ferries are the backbone. Fast and slow boats run from Kingstown to Bequia several times daily, taking about an hour, and on to Canouan, Mayreau and Union Island less frequently. Schedules are reduced on Sundays and change — confirm locally rather than online.

Flying between islands: small aircraft serve Bequia, Canouan, Mustique and Union Island, with strict baggage limits.

Chartering a yacht is the classic way to travel here, bareboat or crewed, and reaches anchorages no other transport does.

On land: minibuses on St Vincent are cheap, crowded and fast; taxis are unmetered with fixed rates — agree first. Driving is on the left and requires a temporary local permit.
