Best destinations by month

March and April usually give the strongest balance for museums, neighbourhood walks and lower-elevation trails. Downtown's official climate normals are mild, and the winter rain pattern is easing.

May and June remain mild, but coastal cloud can outlast grey mornings while inland districts brighten and warm. July through September brings the highest normal temperatures and strong visitor demand. Inland areas and exposed trails can feel much hotter than the coast.

October and November can be excellent for a mixed urban visit, but hot, dry wind and wildfire smoke can disrupt plans. December through February is mild and contains most of the normal rainfall. Keep an indoor alternative for storm days and never assume one forecast represents the coast, basin, Valley and hills equally.
