How to Get Around Ocracoke

There is no bridge to Ocracoke: vehicle access is by ferry only, either the free 40-minute crossing from Hatteras Island to the north or the longer (around 2-2.5 hour) toll ferries from Cedar Island or Swan Quarter on the mainland, both of which require an advance reservation during busy season. Once on the island, the village itself is small enough to walk or bike, and many visitors don't drive at all once they've parked near their lodging.
