Bay of Fundy

The Bay of Fundy is one of Canada's greatest natural treasures. It is a 170-mile long swath of coastline that stretches from Nova Scotia to New Brunswick. The main pull of this area is that the Bay experiences the highest tides in the world. In a single day, the tides move more water than exists in all the freshwater sources across the entire world.

There are many ways that you can experience the Bay of Fundy. There are provincial and national parks full of coastline hiking. There are also natural history museums sprinkled along the way. For the history of people on the Bay of Fundy, you can go lighthouse hopping or visit many museums or interpretation centers.

The beauty of the coastline has attracted many vacationers, and therefore there are many quaint guesthouses and bed and breakfasts along the waterfront. Many of these are converted Victorian houses from the heyday of cod fishing in the area. Eating delicious seafood meals full of lobster, salmon, mussels, and scallops is another way to enjoy the Bay of Fundy experience. You can even try the local snack called dulse. It is made from seaweed.

In both Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, many towns offer great views, wonderful hospitality, and historical attractions. In Nova Scotia, try and stop at Digby, Middleton, Maitland, Economy, and Parrsboro. In New Brunswick, you should not miss St. Andrews, Saint John, Alma, and Hopewell Cape. The delights never end on the Bay of Fundy.
