Epirus Region Guide

Overview

The region of Epirus is one of the thirteen regions that make up the mainland of Greece. Situated on the western part of the country, the region of Epirus is bordered by the country of Albania to the north, the regions of West Macedonia and Thessaly to the east, the region of West Greece to the south, and the Ionian Islands and Ionian Sea on the west. The region is primarily made up of mountain ranges, most of which are comprised of the Dinaric Alps.

If you are planning to take a trip to the region of Epirus, the best place to start your trip is in the capital city of Ioannina. Surrounded by picturesque landscapes and proud of its rich historical and cultural heritage, the city of Ioannina is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in Greece. Nestled underneath the majestic mountain ranges of the Dinaric Alps, the theater had not only served as a venue for plays, but also as a venue used by an oracle similar to the one that resided in Delphi.
