Keep a little mystery in your trip planning: Explorer Picture Mode shows a stylized version of every place instead of the real photo, so you can go by the description and reviews first and picture it your own way -- reveal the real photo any time by flipping the switch off, or just for one place at a time from its own page.

The National Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 7pm and on Sundays from 10am to 2:30pm. A two-day general admission is 8.50€ ($12) and includes a self-guided audio tour. Discounts are available for students, seniors, and families and the first Sunday of each month is free. Inside the museum, you will also find a book and artifact shop as well as a café.

Art has been on public display in Barcelona since 1880. In 1990, the collections of Museu d'Arte de Catalunya and the Museu d'Arte Modern were combined to form the National Museum. The current collection of the National Museum of Catalonian Art features works from the Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, and Modern periods. Most of the artwork on display has been produced in Catalonia.

In addition to the period themed exhibits, there are also exhibits on drawings, prints, photography, and coinage. The National Museum of Catalonian Art also hosts temporary exhibits that showcase specific periods or artists. These temporary exhibits are often accompanied by a lecture series. There are also lectures and workshops on art history and techniques geared toward the museum's younger patrons.

A Hand of Stories is a partnership between the National Museum and TVC. It tells the stories behind or inspired by works in the museum's permanent collection.
