January is cool by Delhi standards, with an official normal daily range of 7.5–20.1°C at Safdarjung. It also brings fog, poor-air episodes and Republic Day security changes. Build margin into flights, rail journeys and outdoor plans.
February and March are the strongest general sightseeing months. Days warm steadily, rainfall normals remain low and long monument walks are easier than in late spring. Holi can alter opening, transport and street conditions on its changing date.
April through June turns very hot. The normal daily maximum reaches 39.9°C in May and 39.0°C in June. Keep exposed sites to the early morning, use indoor breaks and treat official heat alerts as a reason to change the plan.
July through September is the monsoon period. August has the highest normal monthly rainfall at 226.8 mm. Rain can interrupt roads and outdoor sites, though mornings or dry intervals may still work well.
October and November bring lower rainfall and generally easier temperatures, but air quality can deteriorate sharply. Diwali falls within this broad period on a lunar date; check current pollution, transport and event guidance rather than relying on a past calendar.
December is cool and mainly dry, with a normal daily range of 8.4–22.8°C. Morning fog and poor air remain possible, so keep the first hours flexible.
