New Delhi
Practical information for visiting New Delhi
Connectivity & Internet
Air: Indira Gandhi International Airport serves the Delhi region through three terminals. Airport Express, taxis, buses and private cars connect it with the city. Confirm the terminal and request mobility assistance through the airline before travel.
Rail: New Delhi, Delhi Junction, Hazrat Nizamuddin and Anand Vihar handle different services and directions. Check the full station name on the ticket and allow enough transfer time between terminals.
Road: Interstate buses use several terminals across Delhi, and long-distance road journeys are exposed to urban traffic. The operator's exact departure point matters more than the word “Delhi” on the route.
Digital access: Cellular data is useful for Metro planning, taxi verification and live air-quality or traffic checks. Save the accommodation address, station name, terminal and emergency contact offline in case the connection fails.

Stay safe (2026 security update)
Use normal large-city precautions in crowded markets, stations, festival areas and public transport. Keep a phone and wallet secure, carry only the cash needed for the day and verify the licence plate and driver details before entering an app-booked car.
At the airport, use the official prepaid or app-taxi facilities. Do not accept an unsolicited claim that a hotel, attraction or road is closed; verify it with the property, operator or police notice before changing plans or paying anyone.
National ceremonies, government movements and demonstrations can produce barriers, checks and rapid route changes around central New Delhi. Follow police instructions, do not enter restricted areas and keep an alternative Metro station or road route available.
Dial 112 for police, fire, medical or other urgent assistance. It is India's integrated emergency number and is operational across all states and union territories. Give the nearest landmark, station exit or full address.

Health considerations
Carry travel medical insurance and routine medication in original packaging. Delhi has major hospitals, but an emergency transfer, private treatment or interruption can still be costly.
Extreme heat is the main warm-season health constraint. May's normal daily maximum is 39.9°C, and a heatwave can go beyond the normal. Move strenuous outdoor activity to the morning, drink regularly, use shade and follow National Centre for Disease Control or local heat alerts.
Air pollution can reach levels that warrant changing outdoor plans, particularly in the cooler post-monsoon and winter period. Check the official AQI, follow health advisories and reduce prolonged exertion when guidance says conditions are poor.
Choose food premises with active turnover and visible hygiene, wash or sanitise hands before eating and use drinking water from a source you trust. Seek medical advice for persistent fever, breathing difficulty, severe gastrointestinal illness or signs of heat illness. Dial 112 in an emergency.

Emergency information
Dial 112 for urgent police, fire, medical or rescue assistance. The national Emergency Response Support System accepts calls and other SOS signals and routes the request to the appropriate service.
Give a precise location: district, road, nearest landmark, Metro station and exit, railway terminal or hotel address. New Delhi and Delhi contain repeated place names, large campuses and roads divided by barriers, so a map pin can help.
For a lost passport or consular emergency, contact your embassy or high commission and the local police. Keep a copy of the identification page, insurance details, accommodation address and important contacts available offline.
During severe heat, heavy rain, a poor-air episode or a national ceremony, follow the current notice from the responsible authority. An old event map, station schedule or social-media post is not reliable emergency guidance.
