Delhi
Practical information for visiting Delhi
Connectivity & Internet
Air: Indira Gandhi International Airport serves the territory through three terminals. Airport Express, the Magenta Line, taxis, buses and roads provide different connections. Confirm the terminal.
Rail: New Delhi, Delhi Junction, Hazrat Nizamuddin and Anand Vihar handle different services and directions. Use the complete station name and code.
Road: Interstate buses use several terminals, while highways connect Delhi with the wider National Capital Region and northern India. Urban traffic makes the exact departure point important.
Digital access: Cellular data is useful for Metro planning, vehicle verification, AQI and traffic checks. Save the accommodation address, station, terminal and emergency contacts offline.

Stay safe (2026 security update)
Use normal large-city precautions in crowded markets, railway stations, festival areas and public transport. Keep a phone and wallet secure and carry only the cash needed for the day.
At the airport, use an official prepaid or app-based taxi. Elsewhere, verify the licence plate and driver details before entering an app-booked car.
Do not accept an unsolicited claim that a hotel, monument or road is closed. Check with the property, official operator or current police notice before changing plans or paying anyone.
National ceremonies, government movements and demonstrations can produce barriers and rapid route changes. Follow police instructions and keep an alternative Metro station or road route available. Dial 112 in an emergency.

Health considerations
Extreme heat is the main warm-season health constraint. May's normal daily maximum is 39.9°C, and a heatwave can go beyond the normal. Move strenuous activity to the morning, drink regularly and follow current alerts.
Air pollution can reach levels that warrant changing outdoor plans, particularly in cooler post-monsoon and winter conditions. Check the official AQI and reduce prolonged exertion when the health category advises it.
Heavy monsoon rain can slow roads and create local waterlogging. Avoid floodwater, use footwear suited to wet surfaces and leave extra time for essential transfers.
Choose food premises with active turnover and visible hygiene, clean your hands before eating and use drinking water from a source you trust. Dial 112 for urgent medical help.

Local laws & etiquette
Protected monuments prohibit damage, climbing, graffiti, wildlife feeding, drones, tripods and commercial filming without the required permission. Rules can vary by site, so read the current entrance notice.
Places of worship set their own requirements for dress, shoes, head coverings, photography and access. Follow the signs and instructions rather than applying one custom to every faith.
Public consumption of alcohol is an offence under the Delhi Excise Act. Use licensed or permitted private settings and check current age and service rules.
Do not photograph security installations or restricted government areas. National ceremonies can add temporary controls around the Red Fort, Kartavya Path and government districts.

Emergency information
Dial 112 for urgent police, fire, medical or rescue assistance. Delhi Police also lists 1930 for cyber-fraud reporting, and the national tourist helpline is 1363.
Give a precise location: district, road, nearest landmark, Metro station and exit, railway terminal or hotel address. Repeated place names and divided roads make a map pin useful.
For a lost passport, contact local police and your embassy or high commission. Keep a copy of the identification page, insurance details, accommodation address and important contacts available offline.
During severe heat, heavy rain, a poor-air episode or a national ceremony, follow current notices from the responsible authority. Old route maps and social-media posts are not reliable emergency guidance.
