The Virupaksha–Hampi Bazaar area is the clearest first orientation. The temple remains active, while the long bazaar street, Hemakuta Hill and riverside shrines connect worship, procession, commerce and topography.
The Vittala complex sits farther east and should not be reduced to the stone chariot alone. Its halls, gateways, enclosure, sculptural programme and relationship to the river reward a slower circuit. Current ticket and access rules can differ from the open landscape around it.
South of the sacred core, the royal centre contains the enclosure, stepped tank, audience and ceremonial remains, Hazara Rama Temple and associated water works. The nearby Zenana enclosure, Lotus Mahal and elephant stables represent another controlled precinct.
Outlying temples, gateways, tanks, quarries and viewpoints make sense when joined by a theme rather than added indiscriminately. A qualified local guide can connect architecture to inscriptions, water and movement without treating every local tradition as proven history.
