Makar Sankranti and the Jaipur kite celebrations fall around 14 January. Rooftops and skies become intensely active; organised programmes and access arrangements change, and kite line can endanger birds and road users.

Gangaur follows the Hindu calendar in March or April. Jaipur's procession moves through parts of the walled city, changing traffic and drawing large crowds. Confirm the current route with Rajasthan Tourism.

Teej is a monsoon festival, generally in July or August, with worship and a public procession in Jaipur. Dates and arrangements vary annually.

Holi and Diwali affect business hours, transport and neighbourhood life. Join organised celebrations where expectations are clear; never assume that throwing colour at a stranger is welcome.

Literary, film, design and arts programmes use current venues and editions. Verify the organiser and date before booking a trip around one.

For every large event, make it the day's purpose, use official traffic advice and agree on a meeting point before entering a dense crowd.
