How to get around Jaipur

Getting around

Plan Jaipur by zone. The walled city is compact enough for a deliberate walk; the Amber corridor requires transport; southern museums, neighbourhoods and the airport form other journeys.

Metro

Jaipur Metro connects Mansarovar and the railway corridor with Chandpole, Chhoti Chaupar and Badi Chaupar. It is useful for reaching the walled city without taking a car through its busiest streets. Check the operator's current timetable and ticket products.

Buses

City buses and Rajasthan state services cover wider routes, including approaches beyond the Metro. Confirm the current stop and direction; similarly named gates and bazaars are not interchangeable.

Autos, taxis and app-booked vehicles

These fill gaps between hotels, forts and transport hubs. Agree on the fare or use the app price, confirm the vehicle and destination, and expect road time to change sharply by hour.

Walking

Walk within one bazaar axis, the palace-observatory cluster or a garden and museum zone. Pavements may be interrupted and crossings demanding. Heat limits distance from spring through monsoon.

Car and driver

A hired car is useful for Amber, Jaigarh, Nahargarh and several outlying stops, but not for threading every walled-city lane. Agree on parking, waiting time and inclusions first.

From the airport: Jaipur International Airport lies at Sanganer, south of the historic centre. Use the airport operator's current authorised transport information and allow substantial traffic margin for a rail departure or timed monument entry.

From the railway: Jaipur Junction is the principal long-distance station, but use the exact station printed on the ticket. The Metro's Railway Station stop can help on the current corridor.

From Sindhi Camp: the principal bus area and Metro stop are west of the walled city. Confirm the operator's actual boarding point, because private and state services may use different stands.

For Amber: use a current public bus, authorised taxi or hired car. Start early, and do not combine Amber, Jaigarh, Nahargarh and every central monument unless most of the day is reserved for transfers.

Inside the walls: enter through the gate closest to the day's route, then walk. Save the gate, chaupar and hotel address in writing; a driver may need the nearest accessible drop-off rather than the final doorway.
