Kapaleeshwarar Temple
Kapaleeshwarar Temple site features
Last updated on October 28, 2026The temple
A high gateway covered in rows of coloured deities and attendants rises above Mylapore's low streets. Inside, granite paving and pillared halls create a cooler, darker rhythm around compact shrines lit by lamps.
The precinct is not a single axial vista. Movement bends around enclosures, sacred trees, sculpted columns and queues for worship. Bells and chanting carry across courts that may feel spacious one hour and densely occupied the next.
Across the street, the broad stepped tank and its central pavilion pull the eye back into open light and show how water, streets and temple form one ensemble.
