How to get around Hyderabad

Use Metro where it fits

Hyderabad Metro's Red, Green and Blue lines connect important east–west and north–south corridors, including interchanges near major rail and bus facilities. Charminar, Golconda and the airport still require road connections. Check the official map and service notice rather than assuming the nearest-looking station is practical.

Add MMTS, buses or a road transfer

MMTS suburban rail serves selected corridors, while TGSRTC buses reach a much wider area. Authorised taxis, app rides and auto-rickshaws are useful for the last mile. Confirm the destination, pickup point and fare method before leaving.

Walk within a cluster

Charminar and nearby bazaars reward a focused walk, but traffic, uneven surfaces and intense crowds require attention. Golconda contains steep and exposed climbing. The city as a whole is not walkable between major sights.

Protect transfer time

Peak traffic, religious processions, conventions and heavy rain can change a journey sharply. Keep one indoor alternative and never ask a driver to bypass a closure or enter floodwater.

Airport

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport lies south of the city and has no operating Metro connection. The airport lists authorised/app taxis and Pushpak airport buses; confirm the current boarding point and route on the official airport or public-transport channel.

Rail stations

Secunderabad, Hyderabad Deccan/Nampally and Kacheguda are separate long-distance terminals. Read the exact station name and code on the ticket before arranging a transfer. Metro or MMTS usefulness varies by terminal and final destination.

Old City

Metro's Green Line approaches parts of the Old City but does not place every visitor at Charminar's entrance. Buses and road transfers operate in dense traffic. Finish the last section on foot only where conditions and mobility allow.

Golconda and Qutb Shahi Tombs

Treat these as one western heritage zone reached by road. Entrances are separate, walking inside each site is substantial and heat can slow the fort climb.

Hussain Sagar and Secunderabad

Metro, MMTS and road options overlap around this central-northern axis. Decide which shore or institution you actually need; navigating to the lake name alone can put you far from the intended entrance.

Reduced mobility

Metro stations provide managed access, but street conditions and historic sites vary. Confirm the full route from vehicle or platform to entrance, including steps, steep grades, surfaces and accessible toilets.
