Practical information for visiting Hyderabad

Connectivity & Internet

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is Hyderabad's main air gateway. It lies at Shamshabad, south of the central city. Use the airport's current page for authorised taxis and bus connections, and the airline for the operating flight and check-in details.

Secunderabad Junction, Hyderabad Deccan/Nampally and Kacheguda handle different long-distance rail services. Indian Railways is the authority for the train and station code; do not treat “Hyderabad” as one interchangeable terminal.

TGSRTC and other authorised operators connect Hyderabad with destinations across Telangana and neighbouring states. Large bus facilities include Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station and Jubilee Bus Station, but a ticket may use another boarding point.

The Outer Ring Road improves some cross-city and airport movements without eliminating peak congestion. Leave substantial time for a timed train or flight, especially in heavy rain.

Warangal, Bidar and other regional destinations are separate journeys, not Hyderabad neighbourhoods. Their value is lost when compressed into a brief cross-state stop between city sights.

Stay safe (2026 security update)

Use ordinary large-city precautions. Keep phones and wallets secure in markets, stations, festival crowds and compressed approaches around Charminar. Carry only the cash needed for the outing and keep identification copies separate.

Use official ticket channels, recognised guides and clearly identified transport. Confirm app-ride vehicle details and agree on the fare method for other rides. Decline unsolicited “special access,” shopping detours or claims that the normal entrance is closed.

Road traffic is a serious everyday risk. Cross at controlled points where possible, remain visible to turning vehicles and do not assume a signal removes every conflict. Helmet and seat-belt rules matter.

At night, use a planned pickup point in a lit, active place. A crowded food street can change quickly after businesses close, and isolated lake edges or outcrops require different judgement.

Heat, thunderstorms and urban flooding can make a familiar route unsafe. Follow IMD, police and operator notices, stay out of moving water and never bypass a barricade. India's integrated emergency number is 112.

Health considerations

Heat is the main seasonal health constraint from March through May. Shift strenuous activity to early morning, drink safe water regularly, use shade and indoor breaks, and stop for headache, dizziness, confusion or unusual weakness.

Choose sealed or reliably filtered water and freshly cooked food from busy premises. Ramadan food streets and market stalls can be rewarding, but popularity does not replace safe handling. Seek qualified care for persistent gastrointestinal illness or dehydration.

Mosquito-bite prevention matters during and after the rainy season. Discuss routine and destination-specific vaccines, personal medical needs and travel insurance with a qualified clinician before travel.

Air quality varies by area and day. Check the Central Pollution Control Board's current AQI and reduce strenuous outdoor activity when official guidance indicates a health risk, particularly with respiratory or cardiac illness.

Do not touch dogs, macaques or other mammals. Any bite or scratch needs prompt medical assessment for rabies prevention. For urgent police, fire or medical assistance, call 112.

Emergency information

Integrated emergency number: 112 connects police, fire, medical and other urgent assistance across India. Give the nearest Metro or railway station, road junction, monument gate, institution, hotel or well-known landmark; Hyderabad district names can cover large areas.

Save accommodation, insurer and essential medical contacts offline. In a market, procession or festival crowd, agree on a meeting point before separating.

For Metro, airport, bus or railway disruption, use the relevant operator's current channel. A reseller or hotel may help interpret the problem but does not replace the operator.

During extreme heat, heavy rain or flooding, follow India Meteorological Department, city and transport-authority instructions. Do not enter standing water, shelter under an unstable tree or approach a full drain for photographs.

Foreign visitors should keep embassy or consulate details and a copy of their passport available. Report a lost passport promptly and obtain a police record when required by the issuing authority or insurer.
