Agra
Practical information for visiting Agra
Connectivity & Internet
Rail: Agra lies on major routes toward Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. Agra Cantt is the principal station, while Agra Fort, Raja ki Mandi, Agra City and Idgah serve other trains and directions.
Road: Expressway and highway corridors connect Agra with Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur and Gwalior. Idgah and ISBT handle intercity buses. Road time depends heavily on city traffic and the exact terminal.
Air: Agra Airport shares Kheria's military airfield, and commercial service is limited and changeable. Confirm the current route and operating day before building an itinerary around a flight.
Digital access: Keep the hotel address, station name, ticket and emergency contacts available offline. Cellular data helps with vehicle verification and current AQI, but it should not be the only copy of essential information.

Stay safe (2026 security update)
Use normal precautions at railway stations, monument gates, markets and festival routes. Keep a phone and wallet secure, carry only the cash needed for the day and match app-booked vehicle details before entering.
Use licensed guides at protected monuments. Fatehpur Sikri's official visitor guidance specifically warns against unlicensed touts. Ask to see identification and agree the service and price before the tour begins.
Ignore unsolicited claims that a monument, ticket office or hotel is closed. Verify with the official booking portal, property or tourist helpline before changing plans or paying for an alternative.
Dial 112 for police emergencies and 1930 for cyber-fraud reporting. The official tourist helpline is 1363. Give the nearest monument gate, station or full address.
Health considerations
Agra's most immediate seasonal health risk is extreme heat. May and June normal maxima exceed 41°C. Put strenuous walking early, drink regularly, use shade and follow current heat-health alerts.
Air quality can affect breathing and visibility, especially during cool, still periods. Check the official CPCB AQI and reduce prolonged outdoor exertion when guidance says conditions are poor.
Monsoon rain can create local standing water and slow road travel. Choose footwear for wet surfaces, leave extra road time and do not enter floodwater.
Choose food outlets with active turnover, wash or sanitise hands before eating and use drinking water from a source you trust. Seek care for breathing difficulty, persistent fever, severe gastrointestinal illness or signs of heat illness.

Emergency information
Dial 112 for urgent police assistance. Agra district also lists 101 for fire and 102 or 108 for ambulance services.
The tourist helpline is 1363, cyber-fraud reporting is 1930, and the Agra Metro helpline is 0562-2653225. Use current official channels because local numbers can change.
Give a precise location: monument name and gate, railway station, Metro station, hotel address or road landmark. Agra's repeated terminal and gate choices make “near the Taj” too vague for an urgent response.
Keep passport copies, insurance details, accommodation information and essential contacts offline. Contact your embassy or high commission after reporting a lost passport to police.
